5 Tips to Live a Simple(r) Life!

Hey everyone!

So lately I have been super busy attempting to live a simpler life!

So, a little background on why I want to live a simpler life. Well something about me is that I love, and I mean LOVE to shop. Retail therapy has definitely been an issue I have struggled with for a long time. Now that I am a wife and a momma I am definitely better at not spending, but still. As I walk around my home, I look around and wonder how I collected so many things!! Most of everything are things that I completely forgot I had, or do not use often enough to say the least.

On a day to day basis, I find my mind being completely overwhelmed! And when I look around, my home looks, well, pretty overwhelmed too! So, I decided that it was time to purge and get rid of everything I do not absolutely NEED!

I am still in the beginning stages of this new lifestyle change, but here are some tips I have picked up while in the beginning of this awesome new journey!

I hope this can help those of you who find yourself in a similar situation!

  1. If you use the “What if…” statement to justify keeping it, get rid of it!

This is me completely! Especially when looking at my closet. I constantly tell myself “Well what if I have this kind of an event?” or “What if I need this to complete an outfit?!” You know, that outfit I have never worn and probably will never wear!

Don’t worry about the “What if’s”. You will manage!

  1. Expired means Expired!

When it comes to beauty products, I am guilty of “goop hoarding”. You know, keeping a million product bottles with about a half of an ounce left. Yep, that’s me. And I got pretty tired of being scared to look under my bathroom sink! So, take a look at all your products and throw out what has not been used long enough to where you have forgotten about it! Oh, and also don’t forget makeup! You don’t need that eyeshadow quad you bought for that one shade!

  1. To quote Dwight Schrute, “K.I.S.S.: Keep It Simple Stupid!”

I used this thought process as I began to clean out my “Office” a.k.a. The Catch All Room! I had stored a ton of books, wedding decorations, and other miscellaneous items that I never really looked at or needed anymore. Why was I holding on to these things? Wouldn’t it be better and feel better to donate things that other people would probably actually use instead of leaving all of it to collect dust? So, don’t forget, keep it simple! You will thank yourself later!

  1. Keep what matters ONLY.

I am guilty of having many collections, memory boxes, and other things that take up a lot of space. Going through my mugs has probably been the hardest. But it has gotten to the point where I don’t even remember all the mugs I have. Also with my memory boxes. I had to tell myself that I didn’t need 15 mementos of one awesome night. Pick one and do away with the rest. It is the memory that counts after all, right? Also, what matters more than a mug? The coffee inside! 😉

  1. Sell what you can, Donate the rest!

I never realized that I could sell all of these things that I had barely touched! But it definitely has been an area of motivation! Check out Mercari or Depop to sell some of your items quick! Donate the rest of your things your local Goodwill or Salvation Army! Also, many churches and congregations partner with certain places that accept donations as well!

I hope these tips were helpful, and encourage you to live a simpler lifestyle! Because don’t forget, it’s not about what you have, it’s about where you are and where you go!

Have a good weekend everyone, and I will talk to you in my next post!!

  1. Hi Lynn, thanks for the post, I am guilty of just about all of what you have listed! I do love the featured pic of you with your mugs, extra clothes and books. Clothes are a definite hard one for me to purge, the what if is always there with me! The beauty and make up do add up too. I just need to follow your lead! Have a lovely day, hugs, Terri xo.
